Northallerton is a town in North Yorkshire, England. It is part of the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire. It has a population of 15,517 (2001 census), but is now reckoned to have closer to 25,000. It has served as the county town of the North Riding of Yorkshire and since 1974, of North Yorkshire.

It owes its origins, growth and importance to its position in the centre of the Vale of York, on the main communications route between the south and the north, and as the market nucleus for a large rural area.

As well as information on places to visit and events within the area, you can also find out about local facilities and transport. If you're looking for accommodation within the area, they also offer a bed booking service to personal callers.

The Railway arrived in the 1840s and Northallerton was on the old Great North Road. Northallerton is about 230 miles (370 km) from London and 170 miles (270 km) from Edinburgh, 30 miles (50 km) from York and 22 miles (35 km) from Middlesbrough.
